Domina was formed in 2006 following years of exposure to the Short Term Insurance Industry, more specifically, Loss Adjusting and Claims Assessing.

During that time, we encountered people who in many instances had been traumatized by a loss, be it a break-in, armed robbery or flood in the home.  To add to this trauma, they were then faced with the obligatory task of proving their claim.

First it’s the forms to fill in, then the Assessor pays a visit. Then they have to go through decades of paperwork to find relevant documentation to prove their claim.

In many instances, the “victims” were unable to provide adequate proof of ownership on certain items of value that they owned, these then being excluded from their claim.  On the other side of the coin, scores of people were found to be underinsured, which has financial consequences of its own in the event of a claim.  This could result in unhappy clients and settlement disputes.

Concerned about the public’s complacency when it comes to completing a household contents inventory – until it’s too late, the “it will never happen to me!” attitude, failure to accurately estimate the cost of replacing household contents, and finally failure to provide or retain adequate proof of ownership on possessions, Domina was formed.
